MANGALDAI, Sept 16 - Alleging serious anomalies in the preparation of the final NRC leading to exclusion of a large number of genuine citizens of the Hindu Bengali community, the Darrang district committee of All Assam Bengali Youths� Federation on Friday staged a four-hour protest at the District Library here.
The protesters shouted slogans against State NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela and also displayed placards and banners against the NRC authority and the Assam government.
The leaders of the federation cited examples to justify their allegation that Hindu Bengalis are the worst sufferers. Even after submission of genuine documents pertaining to the same legacy, a few members of a family were included, while a few others of the same family have been left out.
The federation demanded inclusion of all the genuine citizens in the NRC through a fresh reverification process.
Later, a memorandum in this regard and signed by Chinta Mandal and Nipu Mandal, president and secretary respectively of the district youth body were forwarded to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Darrang.
A large number of people, including women, took part in the dharna.
