Manipur reports highest ever single-day spike of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday

Imphal, May 13: The highest ever single-day spike of 666 cases of COVID-19 in Manipur pushed the overall caseload of the disease in the state to 37,036 on Wednesday. The fatality tally also rose to 526 as the state recorded second highest single-day deaths of 17.

With the discharge of 358 patients upon recovery, the recovery tally also rose to 31,238 and the active cases stood at 5,272. The recovery rate of the state stood at 84.34% on Wednesday.

The daily update report of the state health department updated on Wednesday at 5pm, showed detection of 666 new positive cases as 3,520 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

This is the highest single-day spike after 600 cases recorded in a day on May 6 last since the first case of the viral infection in the state was reported in March 2020.

Of the total fresh infection of 666, seven were personnel of the Central security forces and of the 659 a maximum of 252 was reported from Imphal West district while Imphal East reported 171.

The third highest number of new infections was reported in Kakching district with 60. It was followed by Bishnupur with 48.

Among other districts, 43 cases reported in Churachandpur reported, 34 in Thoubal, 15 in Ukhrul, three in Chandel, 13 in Senapati, four in Tamenglong, six in Kangpokpi, two Kamjong, seven in Noney and one in Tengnoupal.

Of the 17 deaths in the past 24 hours, the highest number of eight was reported in Imphal East district while three deaths reported in Imphal West district.

Two deaths each were reported in Churachandpur and Thoubal district and one each in Bishnupur and Kakching districts.

The recovery tally of the state also rose to 31,238 as a total of 358 patients were discharged after they recovered from the viral infection in the past 24 hours.

With 3,520 samples tested in the past 24 hours, the state so far tested 6,46,740 samples for the virus.
