Itanagar, April 1: The district administration of West Kameng district on Monday commenced joint survey operations for the erection of border pillars along the inter-State boundary with Assam.

The initiative is being carried out in close coordination with officials from the Border Protection and Development Department, Government of Assam, the Border Affairs Department of Arunachal Pradesh, the Arunachal Pradesh Space Application Centre, and the Survey of India.

The survey work was formally launched in the Chopai area under the Kamengbari-Doimara Circle, which shares its boundary with Sonitpur district of Assam.

West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dr Dilip Kumar supervised the operations and reviewed progress on the ground. He was accompanied by key district officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioners of Singchung and Bomdila, Dy SP of Bomdila, District Land Revenue and Settlement Officer (DLRSO), Divisional Forest Officer (Khellong Division), and engineers from the PWD.

The joint exercise aims to ensure proper demarcation of the inter-State boundary and facilitate better coordination between the two States, officials said.

It may be mentioned that the first border pillar between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam was erected at Seijosa in Pakke Kessang district on February 22 this year, marking a significant milestone towards resolving the long-standing boundary issue.

Both States have hailed the development as a reflection of the spirit of the Namsai Declaration, signed on July 15, 2022 by the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, aimed at resolving the decades-old inter-State border dispute and ensuring lasting peace, administrative clarity, and stability in the border areas.
