Protests continue in Barak Valley against atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh

Devotees of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) were seen on the streets chanting Hare Krishna and demonstrating their annoyance with placards in their hands against the recent spells of atrocities against Hindus and attacks on pandals and temples in Bangladesh.
Later, condemning the incident, a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India was sent through the Cachar Deputy Commissioner drawing the attention of the former on the brutal attack on the devotees in Bangladesh with a request to initiate steps against such incidents.
On the other hand, members of the Silchar District Congress Committee also voiced their concerns on the recent spells of atrocities on the minority Hindus in Bangladesh. A delegation of the Congress committee submitted a memorandum to the President of India seeking his intervention to initiate measures for exemplary punishment to the fanatics causing such crimes in the neighbouring country. Also, the Congress leaders have marked a copy to Assam Governor citing an incident at Golaghat district wherein, according to them, a section of people did not allow Hindus to perform Durga Puja this year. The Congress leaders led by the District Congress president Pradip Kumar Dey, Borkhola legislator Misbahul Islam Laskar and former Silchar Civic Board chairperson Tamal Kanti Banik urged the Honourable Governor to take immediate action against such incidents in the democratic country so that such instanced are not repeated in the future. "We condemn the incidents of attacks on the Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Also, we are worried about what has happened in Golaghat district during the Durga Puja this year. We urge upon the honourable Governor to intervene and take action against such instances," the Congress delegation mentioned in the memorandum.
The civil society of Cachar district and Silchar, in particular, has demanded for strictest punishment to the culprits behind the incident. They have also urged upon the people in India, especially in Barak Valley to maintain calm and echo their voices through democratic protests against the incidents and not indulge in incidents that disturb peace and harmony
In Karimganj district, Patharkandi legislator Krishnendu Paul has also condemned the incidents of attacks on the Hindus in Bangladesh and urged the Prime Minister to even make arrangements for marching the Indian Military to safeguard the Hindus in the neighbouring country. Working president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and also MLA from North Karimganj constituency Kamalakshya Dey Purakayastha has written to the Human Rights Council branch office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights referring the recent incidents in Bangladesh and the impact in India, especially across Barak Valley in particular which shares a long international boundary with the neighbouring country. "The people here are worried for those staying and facing this kind of situation in the neighbouring country. Hence, I request you to immediately intervene in this matter and kindly ensure the safety of the people there," the legislator wrote to the UN Human Rights Council. Also, Dey Purakyastha has written to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urging her to take strong measures against the miscreants and set an example so that these kinds of activities do not happen in the future.
