2024 Assam by-polls LIVE: Counting begins in five seats
Counting of votes for the bye- elections to five Legislative Assembly constituencies of Assam-Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, Behali and Samaguri - began on Saturday.

Congress' candidate in Dholai, Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha, is trailing BJP's Nihar Ranjan Das by 10,705 votes. However, Purkayastha remains optimistic, confident that the tide will turn in the next nine rounds.
"Let the counting finish. Only six rounds have been completed, and nine more are to go. From here on, we will take the lead in Dholai," Purkayastha told The Assam Tribune.

In Sidli, Nirmal Kumar Brahma of BJP’s ally Unites People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL), is leading with 36,173 votes in the fifth round of counting while Bodoland Peoples Front (BPL) Suddho Kumar Basumatary has managed 21,728 votes. So far, 1360 votes have been casted for None of the Above (NOTA).

The vote counting for Dholai LAC is becoming increasingly interesting with each passing round. By the end of Round 4, BJP has secured 22190, Congress at 13,693. The Saffron party is leading by 11,474 votes.

The contest is heating up in Samaguri with Congress’ Tanzil Hussain leading by only 195 votes against BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarma. It will be interesting to see how this battle plays out and who will have the last laugh in this crucial constituency.

The vote counting for the Dholai LAC at the ISTT campus has taken an intriguing turn, with BJP's Nihar Ranjan Das securing a strong lead by the end of round two. Das has garnered 10,876 votes, ahead of Congress candidate Dhruba Jyoti Purkayastha, who has received 6,795 votes, and SUCI (C) candidate Gour Chandra Das, trailing with 426 votes.

Counting of votes for the Dholai constituency is underway at the Inter-State Truck Terminal of Ramnagar; counting of votes for Sidli is at the District Centre of Kajalgaon; counting of votes for Bongaigaon is on at Bongaigaon College; and those for Behali and Samaguri constituency are being held at their respective District Commissioner's offices. Polling for the bypolls was held on November 13.
