Barpeta, April 3: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on the opposition in Assam on Friday, alleging that the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) were working together in ways that threaten the state’s cultural identity.

Addressing an election campaign rally in Barpeta while backing AGP candidate Dipak Kumar Das, Adityanath accused the two parties of compromising Assam’s heritage.

“The Congress and AIUDF are working together to compromise the culture and heritage of the state,” he said.

The BJP leader further alleged that the Congress had failed to safeguard Assam during its decades-long tenure in power.

“The Congress had been in power for 60 years in Assam. But it only encouraged infiltration, violence and riots. It put the local culture and heritage under threat,” he said.

Adityanath asserted that only the BJP-led NDA could address the issue of infiltration and prevent demographic changes in the state.

“Each infiltrator will be identified and chased out. BJP-led NDA will not allow love and land jihads or any change in demography,” he stated.

Projecting the NDA’s governance model, UP Chief Minister said the alliance would focus on both development and preservation of heritage.

“Assam has witnessed a massive transformation in the last 10 years, and I urge your sustained support for the NDA in this election,” he said, referring to the “virasat-vikas” plank.

Taking a dig at the Congress over the cancellation of its Barpeta candidate’s nomination, Adityanath said the party had “fled the battlefield even before the election.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been intensifying its campaign for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections by deploying a lineup of high-profile star campaigners, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with several senior party leaders.

Their rallies and roadshows across key constituencies are aimed at consolidating voter support and reinforcing the party’s development narrative ahead of the polls.
